John Powell, Graduate Research Assistant, 2020-Present

John W. W. Powell is a fourth year PhD student of linguistics and a University Fellow at the University of Arizona. His research interests are in historical linguistics, morphosyntax, language revitalization, and linguistic geography. His work focuses primarily on the historical morphosyntax of languages in the Yuman, Iranian, Celtic, and Western Romance families, as well as African American Language. On the grant, he is on both the Pashto and Sorani teams. He received his BA in English (Literature) in 2010 and his MA in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics in 2018, both from Arizona State University. He has been collaborating with the Piipaash (Maricopa) community in their on-going language revitalization and education program since 2016.
